Rate Setting Process

The SFPUC is committed to a transparent, public rate setting process guided by the principles set in our rates policy. The agency conducts an independent cost of service study at least every 5 years. The last study was completed in 2014 and was used to inform rates for a four year period beginning July 1, 2014. Our next independent rate study is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2018.

The Rate Fairness Board, comprised of SFPUC customers and other appointees, is currently reviewing proposed rate plans, holding public meetings and providing recommendations to ensure affordability, stability, and fairness. The Commission will consider the FY 2019-22 rate proposal in Spring 2018. After rates are approved by the Commission, the Board of Supervisors has the option to review them.
